More feats on mountaineering expected this season

Some more new records on mountaineering are expected to be set this season, as the world-famous climbers Junko Tabei and Appa Sherpa are all set to make their attempts on Mt. Manaslu and Mt. Everest respectively.
According to news reports, Japanese climber Junko Tabei, who is the first woman to climb the world's tallest peak, will be making her first attempt on Mt. Manaslu as part of the commemorating the 50th first human ascent of the peak in May this year. She is expected to arrive in Nepal by mid-April.
Appa, who has already climbed Mt. Everest for a record 15 times, aims to break his own record by climbing the peak for the 16th time in May this year. The 12-member team includes climbers from the USA, Germany, Canada, Mexico and South Africa. As a Sirdar, he will be with the members of the 'Team No Limit Everest Expedition' this time.
Sherpa and some of the members of the team have already left for Everest Base Camp. The team is planning to scale the peak by mid-May.
Meanwhile, another Japanese woman climber Toshiko Uchida also left for Lukla on April4, 2006. She is climbing Mt. Everest this season. The 75-year-old woman has already made her successful attempts on Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Shisha Pangma and many other peaks in Asia, Europe and South Africa.
Similarly, Nawang Sherpa, a disabled Nepali climber, will make his attempt on Mt. Cho-Oyu this season. Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yankila Sherpa bade a farewell amidst a ceremony in Kathmandy on April 4, 2006. The climber wants to show that disabled people can also do something adventurous.
