Realese - 22nd March, 2005

A news report published in a vernacular daily that an international expedition team has postponed its programme to attempt Mt. Everest during this spring has drawn our serious attention. The expedition team is yet to approach His Majesty’s Government for the permit to scale the peak. The Tourism Industry Section under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has conformed that the expedition team is not one among the 17 teams to receive the permit for climbing the world’s highest peak during this spring.

The baseless news report has shocked us, as it has come at a time when the tourism industry has undergone a critical situation. Therefore, we would like to request the media and other concerned agencies to verify any information before it is disseminated. We expect your kind support and cooperation to protect and promote the tourism industry, which is the mainstay of our economy.

Thank you.
Regards,

Deepak Mahat
President
