Royalties for Mt. Manaslu, Mt.
Lhotse halved
August 16, 2005
In a bid to promote the much awaited
50th anniversary celebrations of the first ascent of
Mt. Manaslu and Mt. Lhotse, His Majesty's Government has decided
to reduce the permit fees for climbing the peaks by a 50 per cent.
The expedition teams seeking permission to climb the two peaks
will be provided the facility from March to June 2006.
The Golden Jubilee celebration of
first ascent to the two mountains is being observed throughout the
year 2006.
The decision has been made under the
policy of observing the Golden Jubilee of the first ascent to the
mountains above 8,000 metres, said the Ministry of Culture,
Tourism and Civil Aviation said. The concession will be applicable
to the royalty charged on the basis of the number of members of
any expedition team.
In a press statement issued by the
Ministry on August 15, 2005, the mountaineering teams comprising
up to seven members will be charged $10,000, while the additional
members of the team will be receiving 50 per cent discount.
