Tourist arrival to Nepal via air
in the month of September increased by 11 percent as compared to arrival
figures of the same period last year. According to Tribhuvan International
Airport Immigration Office, a total of 45,782 foreign visitors entered the
country via air in September, 2011.
Growth in the month of September
was largely contributed by rise in arrivals from China (66 percent) and India
(24.5 percent). A total of 5,024 Chinese tourists came to Nepal in September,
whereas the number of Indian visitors stood at 10,316. In aggregate, the Asian
segment registered a positive growth of 28.9 percent, while the European
markets registered a sluggish growth of 7.8 percent.
Similarly, total tourist arrivals
over the first nine months of 2011 has reached 369,844, including 112,235 from
India, which is a rise of 23 percent as compared to arrival figures of same
period of last year. Nepal targets to welcome a total of one million visitors
in 2011, which is being celebrated as Nepal Tourism Year.
European market also observed mixed performance
with overall growth at 7.8 percent. During the month, arrivals from Australia,
Canada and USA increased by 2.8 percent, 11.7 percent and 4.8 percent
respectively.
