A delegation of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) paid a
courtesy call on Minister of State for Tourism and Civil Aviation Dilip
Maharjan at his office in Singha Durbar on Nov 16.
The delegation led by TAAN President Mahindra Singh Thapa
congratulated Maharjan for assuming office. It also apprised Minister of State
Maharjan of the problems that the tourism industry, particularly the trekking
sector, is facing.
TAAN requested Maharjan to create a permanent mechanism so that rescue
operations could be conducted at ease if tourists are stranded in any part of
the country. It also requested the government to put in place a mechanism for
easy refund of garbage management fee that mountaineering expeditions deposit
with the government.
Responding to TAAN’s concerns, Minister of State Maharjan said the he
would look into the issues immediately. Maharjan also assured the delegation
that he would move ahead by joining hands with stakeholders of tourism
industry.
The delegation comprised of TAAN Senior Vice-President Jangbu Sherpa,
1st Vice-President Rana Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Mohan
Lamsal, Treasurer Kumar Thapa and members Nima Lama and Janak Pandey,
and TIMS Officer Navaraj Kafle.
