Nepal promoted in South Africa

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) together with Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Mountaineering Association, among others, organized a tourism promotional campaign in Johannesburgh of South Africa on March 20. This is Nepal’s first promotional initiative in the African continent. The Nepali travel delegation organized ‘Nepal Night’ in Johannesburg. Members of ‘Seven Summits Women Team’ also made presentation on the occasion. The promotional program coincided with the successful summit of Mt Kilimanjaro – the tallest peak on African subcontinent. TAAN to explore Humla

A team of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) is leaving for Nepalgunj on April 2 to explore new trekking routes in Humla district. The seven-member team led by Rana Bahadur Khadka, 1st vice president of TAAN, includes videographer, report writer, photographer and cartographer. A 19-member group will provide logistics support to the exploration team.  The team will fly to Simikot airstrip from Nepalgunj and start trek toward Hilsa – the bordering town along Nepal-China border. Basic trekking guide training concludes

A four-day ‘Basic Trekking Guide Training’ organized by Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) concluded on March 16.TAAN organized the training as a refresher course for working trekking guides. The training covered issues like leadership; communication; hazards, safety and weather; and map and navigation. The training was held at TAAN Secretariat, Maligaun. Number of tourists up 6% in Feb

Tourist arrivals to Nepal via air increased by 6 percent in February compared to arrival figures of the same month last year.According to figures released by Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a total of 45,123 foreign tourists entered the country through aerial route. Arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) recorded healthy growth of 46 percent, thanks to robust growth in arrivals from China (135 percent), Malaysia (288.1 percent) and Singapore (111.9 percent), respectively. TAAN, Travelife sign pact

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has signed a cooperation agreement with Travelife to introduce the Dutch firm’s sustainability system among TAAN members. TAAN President Mahendra Singh Thapa and Naut Kusters of Travelife signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions on February 29. The agreement covers three major issues – promotion of sustainability and Travelife among TAAN members, Travelife training and exam, and Travelife action planning and reporting. The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) has identified alternative trekking trails in the famous Annapurna Region. Tourist arrivals drop 16% in January

Tourist arrivals to Nepal via air in the first month of 2013 declined by 15.9 percent, compared to figures of the same period in 2012, mainly due to drop in arrivals from India, ongoing economic crisis in euro zone countries and political uncertainty at home.According to Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, only 35,330 foreign tourists entered the country via aerial route in January. TIMS cards issuance up 5.46% in 2012

The number of foreign trekkers taking Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) cards from Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) in 2012 increased by 5.46 percent compared to figures of 2011.According to data maintained by TAAN, a total of 87,247 trekkers took TIMS cards from TAAN Secretariat in 2012. The figure includes 438 FITs and 14 trekkers from the SAARC region.The figure excludes TIMS cards distributed by TAAN Pokhara Chapter and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
