TAAN Delegation meets local representatives in Langtang

Preparation for International Langtang Marathon begins

A delegation led by 1st Vice President of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Mr. Jeeban Thapa Magar along with Treasurer Ramkrishna Timalsina, Executive Member Gopal Shrestha and TIMS Incharge Rabindra Dhakal in coordination with Rasuwa-Nuwakot Tourism Society paid a courtesy call to President of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality at Dhunche to discuss about the 3rd TAAN International Langtang Marathon and Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS).

TAAN Treasurer Ramkrishna Timalsina welcomed everyone present in the meeting. He informed that TAAN is organizing the third edition of TAAN International Langtang Marathon on May 19, 2018, and urged local people of Rasuwa District to support 3rd TAAN International Langtang Marathon to make it a successful event. He also stressed on the active participation of locals in the preservation of traditional & historical values of Langtang Valley through developing sustainable tourism. He called for the recommencement of the TIMS counter at Dhunche, elaborating on the importance of TIMS for safety and security of trekkers and employment generation as well.

TAAN Executive Member, Mr. Gopal Shrestha ensured the participation of international media for the promotion of TAAN International Langtang Marathon. “Third edition of TAAN International Langtang Marathon will help promote Langtang Region as a sports destination internationally.” He reassured the participants that TAAN is making effort to provide compensation for victims and deceased family of porters and guides. Reiterating on the importance of TIMS to ensure safety and security of trekkers, Mr. Shrestha questioned the effectiveness of the entry fee collected by locals in TIMS substitution for safety and security of trekkers.

Balaram Neupane, Senior Tourism Entrepreneur from the district and President of Rasuwa-Nuwakot Tourism Society acknowledged TAAN’s effort for continuing the International Langtang Marathon and believed the event in bringing positive impact to the development of Langtang Trekking Region. Mr. Neupane urged everyone to join hands with TAAN and Rasuwa - Nuwakot Tourism Society.

Rasuwa- Nuwakot Tourism Society Vice- President Mr. Shiva Lamichhane solicited the locals’ assistance for organizing 3rd TAAN International Langtang Marathon. President of District Sports Development Council, Mr. Tengba Singi Tamang reassured to assist TAAN to organize the third edition of TAAN International Langtang Marathon.

Mr. Santosh Ghale, President of Langtang Chhetra Sarokar Samiti enlisted Samiti’s support to TAAN for promoting and developing Langtang in international tourism market. He expressed that 3rd TAAN International Langtang Marathon will provide much needed promotion for Langtang region and also suggested to include other nearby regions for tourism promotion.

Mr. Ramesh Basnet, representative of Langtang National Park, stressed on the need to promote ‘Green Marathon’ through conservation of national park and proper management of solid waste.

Police Sub-Inspector of Dhunche, Mr. Dhurba Prashad Rijal claimed that the local police unit had provided a very good security during the last two marathons organized by TAAN and would  do so during the third edition of TAAN International Langtang Marathon.

Major Shisir Khadka speaking on behalf of Kalijung Ganna (Nepal Army unit) Rasuwa assured and expressed his committment to support the event by providing drinking water along different routes and necessary recue and medical team service in case of emergency.

District Coordination Committee Member Mr. Temba G.L. offered to provide necessary aid for organizing 3rd TAAN International Langtang Marathon by notifying and updating participants about risky areas on marathon route.

Langtang Buffer Zone Development Committee President Mr. Temba Norbu Tamang requested TAAN to take initiative actions for Sustainable tourism of Langtang Region, and called for team work from all the participants.

Senior Journalist of RSS, Gyanendra Neupane recommended revising the MoU concerning TIMS and asked the delegation about utilizing TIMS budget for benefiting locals. He also proposed upon exploring and promoting new destination by promoting ‘Green Environment’ in coordination with Langtang National Park and local Conservation Association.

Nepal Television Journalist, Mr. Sushil Koirala drew attention to speed up infrastructure development in Langtang for effective tourism promotion. He requested to include both local and international media for promoting TAAN International Langtang Marathon.

Responding to the discussion meeting organized by TAAN, President of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, Mr. Kaisang Tamang highlighted the importance of sports tourism in Nepal. “Langtang Marathon has helped to disseminate the message ‘Langtang is safe after massive earthquake 2015’. Mr. Kaisang committed full support to TAAN International Langtang Marathon on behalf of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality.

Closing the ceremony, TAAN 1st Vice- President Mr. Jeeban Thapa Magar expressed his gratitude to all participants. He appealed for support from local government, associations, media and participants to make 3rd TAAN International Langtang Marathon a successful event. He said, “TIMS budget is supposed to be utilized for exploring and promoting new destinations and for the welfare of porters and guides, but Nepal Tourism Board is yet to timely handover the money to TAAN as per the MOU agreement between TAAN and NTB. TAAN International Marathon is a flagship project of TAAN which needs to be strongly supported by NTB.”
