TAAN organized 2nd TAAN International Langtang Marathon 2017 in Langtang region on April 25 to mark the 2nd anniversary of the tragic earthquake of 2015.
The event successfully disseminated the message through mass media that the Langtang is safe for tourism activities, trekking in particular.
The marathon was started from Kyanjin Gomba (3,870 m), a popular village in the Langtang Region, and ended at Dhunche where a closing ceremony was held in the chairmanship of Mr. Chandra Prasad Rijal. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Keshab Kumar Bista, Member Secretary of National Sports Council, Nepal.
A total of 102 participants took part at the event including foreigners. From male category, Mr. Hom Lal Shrestha was the winner of the event. He concluded the marathon within 3hrs 34mins 05sec. Likewise, Mr.Rajan Khatri was 2nd runner-up with 3hrs 37mins 25sec and Mr.Bed Bahadur Sunuwar was 3rd runner-up within 3hrs 38mins. 55sec. Similarly, Ms. Sarita Basi was the winner. She completed marathon within 5hrs 13mins 00sec. Likewise, Ms. Resu Basnet was 2nd runner-up within 5hrs. 16mins. 00sec. and Ms. Puspa Bhandari was 3rd runner-up within 5hrs. 28 mins. 00 sec.
TAAN presented award to the participants with the cheque amount of Rs. 100,000/-, Rs. 75,000/- and 50,000/- with the certificate and medal to the winners, 2nd runner-up and 3rd runner-up from both male and female category respectively.
Speaking at the program, member secretary Bista pledged to support TAAN International Marathon from government side with adequate allocation of fund. TAAN President and Executive Members along with secretariat staffers took part at the program.
