Four trekking entrepreneurs, who were nominated to the executive committee, were sworn in amid a function held at TAAN Secretariat on October 28.Ramesh Prasad Dhamala, the president of Trekking Agencies of Nepal (TAAN), administered the oath of office and secrecy to Keshav Raj Wagle of Advance Adventure, Ranjan Rajbhandari of Adventure Nepal Mountain Bike Treks, Sonam Gyalzen Sherpa of International Sherpa Adventure and Vidya Hirachan of Mustang Trails Trekking and Expedition.The third meeting of TAAN executive committee had nominated these four entrepreneurs to the executive committee.With this, the executive committee of TAAN has taken complete shape. Dhamala elected TAAN president

The 35th annual general meeting (AGM) of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) held on Friday elected a new executive committee with Ramesh Dhamala of Ecological Treks as the new president.The panel led by Dhamala swept the election winning all 17 posts on offer. Dhamala, who got 321 votes, defeated his competitor Jangbu Sherpa by 60 votes. Immediate past president Mahendra Singh Thapa and President of TAAN Pokhara Chapter Narayan Sapkota are also in the executive committee. Two killed in Pokhara ultralight crash

Two persons were killed when an ultralight aircraft belonging to Avia Club crashed near World Peace Stupa in Pumdi Bhumdi VDC of Kaski district on Thursday morning, according to Kaski police.One of the deceased has been identified as Stephen Shrestha – the pilot of the ill-fated aircraft, according to state-run Nepal Television.The aircraft was carrying a Chinese tourist whose identity has yet to be ascertained. Ultralight flights are popular among tourists in Pokhara for sightseeing and mountain views.Along with Avia Club, Pokhara Ultralight also offers ultralight flights in the lake city.

Three climbers killed in Himlung Himal

Three mountaineers died while climbing Himlung Himal (7126m) in Manang district on September 29, according to RSS.The tragedy occured when an avalanche hit the climbing party. The deceased have been identified as Tendi Sherpa of Gudel-4 and Pasang Sherpa of Juke in Solukhumbu and Kaji Sherpa of Okhaldhunga. Dead body of Kaji has yet to be retrieved.Though a Mountain Air helicopter reached the base camp on September 29 to airlift the dead bodies, it couldn't return due to bad weather.The bodies have been kept at the Camp I of Himlung Himal,RSS said.

Turkish Airlines started scheduled flights to Nepal on September 2.The Airbus A330 aircraft of the Istanbul-based carrier landed at Tribhuvan International Airlines at 7:15 am with 280 passengers on board. It left for Istanbul at 8:45 am.Turkish Airlines will initially operate four flights a week on Istanbul-Kathmandu route. Single Track team has secured first position in the 1st TAAN International Eco-Challenge held in Kathmandu on Saturday. The team, which comprised of 6.5-kilometer of running, 14.5-kilometer cycling and 7.5-kilometer rafting, completed the race in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 37 seconds. Tourist arrivals slightly up in July

Tourist arrivals to Nepal via air in the month of July increased by 0.28 per cent to 38,560 compared to the same month last year, according to figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).According to a press statement issued by Nepal Tourism Board, the arrivals from South Asian region have shown mixed performance. The budget for fiscal year 2013/14, which the government unveiled on July 14, has put priority on infrastructure development. The government has allocated Rs 630 million to develop eco-friendly tourism destinations and explore new trekking trails in different parts of the country.
